Tuesday Night Bible Study
"Read and Meditate on God's Word"

Scriptures
Joshua 1:8 (New Living Translation)
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Psalm 119:105 (NLT)
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.
Psalm 23:4-6 (NLT)
Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.
Ephesians 6:10-20 (NLT)
The Whole Armor of God
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.
I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.
Notes
The book of Joshua says “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (NLT, 1:8)
- What does studying God’s word do? Arms us against the devil's attacks, guides us, strengthen us, prepare us, correct us, draw us closer to God
- What does meditating on God’s word do? Helps us think about the word, helps it become a part of our lifestyle, helps us grow, gives us something to go to when the enemy attacks, feeds us. It keeps you alive (eating only on Sundays will leave you starving). Fills you (satisfies your spirit), keeps you from craving sin.
- Who is God? HE is where the JOY is! (Bible Recap)
- God’s position: God is God! Does it make a difference? YES
- God’s power and authority: He has ALL POWER (omnipotent) Does it make a difference? YES, it should
Compare and contrast God’s position and power to that of the local police.
What benefits do we receive from reading and meditating on God’s word?
